Finisterre Lighthouse

Ref: 05005998

Description:
Cape Fisterra is located on the Atlantic coast, in the municipality of the same name in the province of A Coruña. For a long time, it was considered the westernmost point of Europe, when in fact the true continental westernmost point is Cape Roca in Portugal and Cape Touriñán in Muxía.
It is very likely that in the past, fires were lit in this place, as suggested by the name of Mount "Facho," which means a bonfire lit on a high point to transmit signals.
The Lighthouse Commission, by unanimous agreement on May 25, 1843, decided to build the first two first-order lighthouses with a permanent status. Along with Machichaco, Fisterra was chosen as the first point where ships arriving from the Atlantic would dock at the ports of northern Spain.
