Description:
Cabo Prior is one of the typical finisterres of the Galician coast and marks the northern boundary of the Magnus Portus Artabrorum, mentioned by Mela, Pliny, and Ptolemy. A document from King Sancho the Brave, dated 1286, reveals that the monks of Sobrado collected a tithe from the whaling activities in the Prior cove. Later, Nuno Freire de Andrade took possession of the monks' lands and ordered the construction of a port and the earliest lighthouse. The current Cabo Prior Lighthouse first shone on March 1, 1853, with a fixed white light reaching a distance of 15 nautical miles.
