Description:

Finisterre Cape is located on the Atlantic coast, in the municipality with the same name in A Coruña. For a long time, it had been considered the most occidental place of Europe while the real continental west end is Roca Cape in Portugal and Touriñán Cape in Muxía.

It is possible that fire used to be lit on the top to send messages due to the name of the mount, Facho,which means bonfire.

The Lighthouse Commision agreed on the 25th May 1843 to build the first two stable Lighthouses; next to the Machichaco´s one, the decided to build Finisterre´s lighthouse because it is the first port where ships from the Atlantic, which headed to the Northern ports of the Peninsula, arrived.
