Description:
In the entrance of Ría de Vigo, as if it was a defensive barrier, we can find the Cies Islands, an archipelago composed of Monteagudo, Faro and San Martiño islands. They work as a natural shelter and a defence against blows from the Atlantic Sea.
Due to the situation of the Cies Islands, in the middle of the XIXth century, the Peninsular and Oriental Company of English steamship from Vigo ´s port asked the Minister of State for a lighthouse placement which helped the ships to get into the port and directed the ones which came from America to the North of Europe.
