Description: The Galician popular proverb warns: “People, who didn’t go alive to San Andrés de Teixido, go there when are dead”. A famous shrine built facing the Atlantic, on the western gradient of the old Promontorium Artabrum, called Cabo Ortegal nowadays, located among the highest cliffs in Europe, was dedicated to San Andrés, apostle like his brother Santiago and as loved in Galicia as he is. Pilgrims visit it on Fridays, Saturdays and Pentecost Sunday; during August and September, and from 27 to 30 of November, day of the saint's feast. Nobody dares to harm a lizard, a beetle, a mouse or any other animal; for fear that it is a soul that will fulfill the promise he could not in life. Pilgrims put a stone in the "milladoiros" that appear along the way. They drink water from the saint's fountain and decorate the hazelnut rods with the Willdenow Maritime Armory flower, which are caught in these fields. It helps to find and perpetuate the love, that is why is known as “herba de namorar" (herb of falling in love). “A herba de namorar, a herba namoreira, a herba de namorar tráiocha na faltriqueira”.
